The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences
According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of the Interior in Taiwan, 1 in very 10 individuals was at least 65 years of age in 2008; and the proportion is expected to continue increasing in the future. This growing proportion of aged persons has created a commensurate demand for professionals with knowledge in the economical, physical and social conditions of older people in a variety of fields. However, this aging population also strongly challenges nutritionists today.
Nutrition is a study and application of the relationship between foods and health. The Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences, one of the three programs in the School of Healthcare Management at Kainan University is designed to train the next generation of nutrition scientists.
The goals of this program are: 1/ to provide students with knowledge and skills of the preventive nutrition, food safety, public health, and aging. 2/ to promote healthy living and well-being to the public through community.
